I know many of you were waiting for. And Finally, A jailbreak for iPhone 3GS has been released, But this time its Geo-Hot aka George Hotz instead of the the Dev-Team.

geohot-3gs-jailbreak

Here is a Small comment From Geo Hot:

Normally I don’t make tools for the general public, and rather wait for the dev team to do it. But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the “last” hole in the iPhone. What last hole…this isn’t golf. I’ll find a new one next week.

Requirements: You must have

1) Windows xp sp2 32bit
2) iTunes 8.2.0.23
3) Purplera1n software

Notice:

The jailbreak is a bit incomplete. The kernel vm_mem patch is not present so Winterboard will not work as some other critical tweaks. (SBSettings does work!).

Use with caution and be patient. If you’re not in a hurry, wait for the release from DevTeam.

First of all just go to purplera1n.com and Download purplera1n.exe. This thing works on all Windows, EXCLUDING windows 7. Make sure, You have the Latest  iTunes installed, and an iPhone with 3.0 firmware. Next, Connect Your iPhone normally and then click on “make it ra1n” and wait for sometime. On Bootup, run Freeze, the purplera1n installer app. After doing this, the steps are quiet obvious and you’ll figure out what do to next.

After Dev-Team reported that the Jailbreaking/Unlocking technology (read redsn0w, ultrasn0w respectively) will also be applicable to the iPhone 3GS, GeoHot  mentions that a new security layer (called ECID) is built in the 3GS.

wpned

The advice GeoHot is giving, is that users that want to jailbreak/unlock their 3GS in the near future should generate a certain ‘certificate’. The thing is this:

When iTunes starts the restore process, they contact Apple servers to generate signatures for your device. It’s important you get these signatures before a new version of the software comes out.

So these certificates, which you should generate NOW, might save you a jailbreak/unlock in the future.

And here’s how it works:

Put your phone into recovery mode and connect it to your computer.

recovery

Using usbview on Windows(enable Config Descriptors), System Profiler on Mac, or lsusb on Linux, read your phones ECID. It’s the 16 digit hex number after “ECID:”

usbview

Go to “Options/Config Descriptors”
Clic on  “File” / “Refresh”
Chose “Apple Recovery (iBoot)”
and copy (ctrl-c) your ECID code that should look like something like this: 000000DSHA015DS4

usbview2

Go to purplera1n, type it, and hit enter

purplera1n

Save the generated file

KEEP IT SAFELY!

iPhone 3GS is first among iPhones that have got video capturing feature and you can even upload your captured videos directly to YouTube using 3G network.

Since the release of iPhone 3GS there’s 400% increase in the mobile video uploads to YouTube.  This impressive 400% increase figure is in relation to the 1700% increase in video uploads to YouTube over the last 6 months.

iPhone is not only showing such impressive boom in video uploads, it’s also dominating the CameraPhones category at the online photos platform: Flicker and you will be surprised to see that under Cameras category it’s also much more popular than brands like Canon and D80.

With the recent launch of the iPhone 3GS, many are curious about exactly what makes up the guts of the new iPhone and its actual cost to build for Apple. A recent tear down by industry analyst iSuppli reveals the iPhone 3GS, while at first glance is very similar to its predecessor, actually reveals some unique changes to the hardware. According to their research, the total cost of the new iPhone 3GS 16GB is about $179, which is only $5 more than the previous generation 8GB model when it was released around this time last year.

Of course, when comparing this figure to the cost of the new iPhone, it does not include the final price that Apple charges carriers for the phone, since the carriers subsidize the price to the end user in exchange for signing new contracts. Additionally, this figure is for the cost of the device itself, and does not include packaging or other accessories included in the box.

From a hardware perspective, there are a few new changes, including the replacement of two separate chips (one for Wi-Fi and another for Bluetooth) and replacing them with a newer single-chip solution. The new “digital compass” is composed of the existing accelerometer and a new azimuth sensor by AKM Semiconductor. The accelerometer allows the device to determine the iPhone’s orientation, while the azimuth sensor allows the device to determine its location in relation to magnetic north. The processor in the 3GS has also been bumped to 600MHz, up from the 532MHz processor found in the iPod touch and the 412MHz processor found in the previous generation iPhone 3G. The new iPhone 3GS processors are, according to FCC filings, capable of higher speeds (in the 800MHz range) but have been clocked lower, likely for better battery performance.

Another interesting item to note is that the flash memory, displays, touch screen assemblies and processors are still the most expensive components of the device. According to the breakdown by iSuppli, these were primarily manufactured by Samsung and Toshiba, however, keep in mind that Apple does source displays and memory from several vendors, which could skew these figures slightly.

Its finally here! the long-awaited unlock solution for the iPhone 3G has now been officially released by the iPhone dev team!

Users who have upgraded their iPhone 3G with iPhone 3.0 OS can now be unlocked with the latest Ultrasn0w tool. The Ultrasn0w is used together with redsn0w or PwnageTool, which will jailbreak your iPhone 3G first before you proceed with the unlocking.

The redsn0w tool is released last week, which can be applied to iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch with iPhone 3.0 OS for jailbreaking. The original iPhone 2G can also be unlocked using the redsn0w tool alone without the latest Ultrasn0w.

For those who want to catch up fast, follow the below procedure to unlock the iPhone 3G on Firmware 3.0.

1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0.
2. Jailbreak the device using PwnageTool or Redsn0w.
3. Run Cydia to install Ultrasnow.
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com
5. Search for Ultrasnow and install it.
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G.

Please note that this method is only suitable to work with iPhone 3G which was previously unlocked with YellowSnow. And the method is not recommended to unlock an iPhone 3GS.

It was released last night.  I believe Beejive is the best IM clients out there.  It’s Adium for the iPhone.  Try it out and comment what you thing! Works with AIM/iChat/MobileMe, MSN/Windows Live, Yahoo!, Facebook, MySpace, GoogleTalk, ICQ & Jabber.

The new version has push notification enabled, Apple’s ‘alternative’ to true multitasking. I’ve had a play with it and it so far works really well, push notifications come through almost instantly over wifi, seconds on 3G and within 15 seconds over GRPS.

Just after the iPhone 3G S is launched with iPhone 3.0 firmware which is the latest OS for the iPhone, the dev team has released the first tool to unlock the 3.0 firmware with the help of Pwnagetool which is currently available for Mac OS X. Windows users should have to wait for the same tool to be launched for their OS.

As always, the Dev Team comes with some rules for the users to try out the unlocking tools and here are those GOLDEN RULE:

If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.

PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G. It will not to work with the iPhone 3G S which is just launched.

Here are a few mirror links to download the Pwnagetool for 3.0 firmware of iPhone:

Apple today released the long-awaited iPhone OS 3.0 for both iPhone and iPod touch via iTunes. Users should sync their devices with iTunes and check for updates in order to access the new version. iPod Touch owners will need to purchase the new firmware for $9.95 while iPhone owners will get the firmware downloaded automatically.

While many of the features of the new operating system have been detailed over the past few months, a large list of features are detailed by Apple:

  • Copy and Paste: Quickly and easily cut, copy, and paste text from application to application. Select entire blocks of web text with a tap. Copy and paste images from the web, too.
  • Landscape Keyboard: Want more room to type Rotate iPhone to landscape to use a larger keyboard in Mail, Messages, Notes, and Safari.
  • Spotlight Search: Find what you’re looking for across your iPhone, all from one place. Spotlight searches all of your contacts, email, calendars, and notes, as well as everything in your iPod.
  • Safari: Enjoy faster performance, autofill user names and passwords, and more.
  • Auto Wi-Fi login: Log in to a Wi-Fi hotspot and iPhone automatically logs you in when you connect again
  • Find My iPhone: Find your iPhone if you lose it and protect your privacy with Remote Wipe.
  • Shake to Shuffle: Give iPhone a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library.

Other sites have provided detailed walkthroughs of the many new features, including some handy tips:

16 Tips to Become an INSTANT iPhone OS 3.0 Power-User

Select Text then delete it

Tired of the spastic deleting of the delete button? What happens is you hold the delete button, and it starts removing offending characters — and then it goes on to removing whole words. Next thing you know, you’ve deleted too many words, and you have to start over. To avoid this, use tap and hold to show the Select|Select All pop-up. Select what you need deleted, hit the delete button and — poof! — you’ve gotten rid of the offending text without trying to judge the speed of the delete button.
Fortune: The 4 new iPhone features I use most

Safari Autofill

Any browser worth its salt ought to be smart enough to remember the name and password you use on the sites you go to most often. I don’t know why this wasn’t available on the iPhone from Day 1, but now that it is I find myself visiting sites I had avoided because I was either too lazy to enter the password or too absent-minded to remember it.

Undo

No matter what application you are using, you can undo typing by shaking your iPhone. If you want your text back, simply shake again. If you had something else written before you started writing the sentence you chose to undo, it reverts back to that. If this was the first thing you wrote, it simply erases it.

The new Iphone OS 3.0 has been released and up for grabs. You can get your copy now by just clicking “Check for update” button right now.
What’s new in this OS??? First and foremost is that, now you can copy and paste your stuff which was not present in the previous OS. Some other new features include spotlight search, stereo bluetooth, push notifications and landscape keyboard for your messaging requirements. There are lot others little improvements which I haven’t gone through but as of now there are the ones that I came across.
The new OS is absolutely free for all IPhone owners but it costs a megre $10 for Ipod Touch guys. You can get your OS right now and leave some comments if you have any complaints or suggestions.
