Get root access to your iPhone With just a USB Cable

If you’ve got a jail broken iphone then you’re already familiar with the process of SSHing into your iphone so that you can do all sorts of things that Apple says you shouldn’t. In order to do this you need a program like Cyberduck which allows you to connect to your iphone via wifi using the SSH protocol. No probs right? Well what if you’re like my lame friend, N00b Tony? N00b Tony wants to hack his iphone but doesn’t have wifi at home. What’s a N00b to do in a situation like that? Well N00b Tony, if you’re reading, then your problems are no more! You need a nifty little freeware program called Disk Aid, and you need it like yesterday. Disk Aid allows you to get disk access to your iphone via USB. All you need is your iphone usb cable and a copy of disk aid and you’re sorted!

Now I’ll explain this in a way that even N00b Tony can get. Just fire up disk aid and plug in your iphone. Disk aid will auto detect it and will, by default, drop you into your iphone’s media folder. Here you can copy all sorts of photos and other media to and from your phone, but its not where the magic happens.

If you’re looking to get your hands dirty, then what you want to do is click over to the “root folder.” Disk aid will warn you and tell you that, from this point on, you could brick your iphone unless you know exactly what you’re doing. This is when I tell N00b Tony that there are milk and cookies in the other room and he should let me take over. Once in the root folder you’ll have access to your iphone’s entire file structure and be able to do things like install cracked apps trial software before you legitimately purchase it.

If all you want to do is backup the photos then you won’t need to have a jail broken phone. If however, you actually want to make good use of your root access, then your phone will need to be jail broken. And that’s it, now you’ve got root access even if there’s no wifi around!
