The iPhoneDevTeam, the only team working on iPhone 3G’s unlocking method via breaking into some loophole in iPhone OS has got one step closer actually doing it. This team had already jailbroked iPhone 3G, which means that you can start adding unlocked apps and games using Cydia. But the SIM is still not opened. You will still have to be on legal ISP which has partnered with Apple to provide cellular services with iPhone. But if you jailbreak, your warranty is broken and Apple will not support your iPhone. This is the only reason, I haven’t yet jailbroken my iPhone 3G.

Anyways, let me now get to iPhoneDevTeam’s latest accomplishments:

Last week they posted this image on their blog:

This looks like greek to me but this is what the blog has to say:

We made some significant 3G progress this week.

Here’s a screenshot of a 3G iPhone whose baseband has been modified.  And even though it’s modified — and fails the integrity check — it’s still running.  Can you guess where the patch was made?

And this week, further progress has been made. I think the ultimate unlocking method is very close now.
