iPod Touch 2G Gets a Faster CPU Clock than iPhone 3G

I was surprised reading at Touch Arcade that the Second Generation iPod Touch comes with a faster CPU clock speed making it not just superior to it’s predecessor 1st generation iPod Touch but also the iPhone 3G.

“The most clear difference is that fact that the iPod Touch’s processor was quietly boosted to 532MHz (up from 412MHz) with the 2nd generation model introduced in September. Meanwhile, the iPhone 3G, Original iPhone and 1st Generation iPod Touch continue to run at the original 412MHz.” the post reads on Touch Arcade.
The iPhone’s processor is technically capable of running at 620Mhz but for some reason Apple decided to limit it at 412Mhz. The most probable causes for this would be give to give a longer run to it’s already short battery life.
We understand that the iPod Touch needs less energy than the iPhone due to it’s lack of Phone or GPS but Apple needs to do take some action as developers will have a hard time releasing games for different processor configs. Touch Arcade has proved that there were already differences in performances between the iPhone and iPod Touch running at same clock speed.
“Where we can easily display two 1500 polygon tennis players with 32 bones each on the iPod touch 2G and maintain fast and fluid game play, the original iPod touch just chokes, and in some instances so do the iPhones.” Thomas Fessler, a game developer, reporting to Touch Arcade.
