The official sales for the iPhone in the Chinese market finally gains momentum. The sales of the iPhone in china began slowly largely because of the grey market devices that were introduced. After the Chinese press accounts were cited, Dan Butterfield from iPhonAsia had revealed the sales mark that the iPhone had reached. The reports claim that the Apples (AAPL) iPhone in China has finally crossed the 300,000 marked goal that it had planned on achieving.

The (CHU) known as the China Unicom which is the official Chinese iPhone carrier said that it took them almost 40 days to sell only 100,000 iPhones in the first phase. However the 300,000 mark was accomplished within 20 days. Butterfield in his report wrote, “The Unicom iPhone Express has steadily picked up speed and is now steaming down the tracks.”
The increase in the iPhone sales can be contributed to the hi-profile advertising campaign as well as the 46 city tour road show along with the educational campaign that had gone into action just a week ago. Although China is considered to be the world’s largest cell phone market, it wasn’t easy for Apple and Unicom to establish their foothold. China’s mobile market works upto 720 million subscribers, and with just a few 100’s in their kitty during the first few weeks, it was a total pittance. They have to compete along with China’s huge grey market and the counterfeit iPhones that are selling in millions, although these devices are nothing as compared to the original. Another hurdle that it had to face was the high speed internet connection because of the restrictions that were laid on the same by the government. Apple had to introduce a special version for the Chinese market that does not contain the Wi-Fi chip.
