You don’t need wifi as long as your phone has access to the internet through a data plan it’ll work fine. The download is quite small to do I have done it myself that way :-)

I clicked in blacra1n button and soon Geohot image (the image is displayed in this blog with Geohot surounded by iPhones…) was show briefly in my iPhone. Then iPhone was unlocked!!! My iPhone is already legally unlocked by Apple but I lost tethering and bluetooth connection with my computer after firmware 3.1.2. With this firmware my GPS became more difficult to gain signal too!!! After blackra1n installation my tethering and bluetooth connection worked very well again!!! Nevertheless I didn’t need to install sn0w because my phone line is VIVO (authorized by Apple at Brazil). So I really jailbroke my phone without install sn0w or a I only unlocked my tethering and bluetooth? And what about GPS? My wife had an iPhone 3G authorized by Apple and VIVO but she lost GPS signal accuracy and gain after upgrade firmware to 3.1.2!!! The exact problem I have!!! So I am sure is not a problem with my hardware!!! I’ve heard a rumour that Geohot have been searching a way to solve a WiFi 3.1.2 firmware bug…Could this bug related to GPS accuracy too??? Anybody has an idea to solve my GPS problem??? I already restore my iPhone and then after used blackra1n. The GPS accuracy improve a little but I’ve never seen anymore the blue dot blinking since 3.1.2 firmware updating!!!

    Bentot,

You can see how to backup and restore your iphone here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

As long as you restore or update through iTunes (or manually with an original firmware) the traces of the jailbreak is gone.

For those who are AT&T subscribers with a warranty. Should I back up the original firmware first before unlocking? If so, how do I back up?

Also, how do I restore the original firmware later on and will Apple know that the phone has been unlocked/jail broken?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello David,

You don’t need to use your SIM cards 3G/Edge network to upgrade to blacksn0w just connect to the internet with your iPhone’s Wifi. I am sure you can manage to find one at a friends, family, work, school or any hotspot the download is simply half a MB.

Download and install Blacksn0w on your computer and look at this simple unlocking guide:
