Help Fixing Problems Some Encounter While Jailbreaking with Blackra1n on OS 3.1.2

Advertisements

Blackra1n is so far the easiest way to Jailbreak your device, but still users have got several issues while using it. Technically, it’s not the fault of developers, but its blame to be put on users who might be doing something wrong during the whole process.

blackra1n

The following guide will highlight few cautionary steps you need to take care of before starting:

  • Make sure you’ve upgraded to 3.1.2. Blackra1n
  • jailbreak does not work for 3.0 or 3.1.
  • Download the Blackra1n tool to your desktop. Some users have reported issues of the application crashing or having issues with rights on Vista or Windows 7. This should fix it. You can also try running it as Administrator
  • Close all other applications when you jailbreak to avoid interference. Also its better if you terminate “mdnsresponder” process in your Task Manager
  • You won’t lose any of your apps or data. You can always sync your iPhone to iTunes to restore everything as it was before.
  • If you have a white screen turn off the device by holding the power and home buttons for 10 seconds and boot it again.
  • If iTunes keeps popping up, go to the task manager and kill all iTunes processes (use CTRL + ALT + DELETE) which includes iTunesHelper.exe. This can cause interference with the process too.
  • Reboot your device and Enable the “Airplane” mode. It has also helped out few people.
  • There have been some compatibility issues with Vista and Windows 7. You need to set it right by going to its properties, and enabling “Windows XP Compatibility Mode”
  • If your device doesn’t boot for a long time, hold down the power and home buttons and restart it. If it tells you to connect to iTunes, something must have gone wrong and you might have to restart the process. I know this is annoying, but it has worked for some people after some tries. It does work.
  • Strangely, doing the process on different computers has also worked for some people.

In the end, the process DOES WORK. Though there are some bugs, but they can be overcome with a little effort. This procedure has been tried several times and it has been successfully completed by most of the users.

Even if you fail during the process, try it again or try it on a different PC. Just keep in mind that thing crack works, now you have to make it work for your device.

I installed Black Ra1n and unlocked my 3GS v3.1.2. Itunes popped up stating that my phone was in “recovery mode”. I closed itunes. I restarted my phone but it will not boot. The apple logo appears for about 5 minutes before the phone restarts itself only to again, display the apple logo for 5 minutes before restarting again. It is stuck in this loop. My Computer (windows 7) will not recognize the phone. Hard reboots still do not load the OS on the phone. Any ideas?

    Siva,

    Try a “Reset Network Settings”.

    1. Tap Settings
    2. Tap General
    3. Tap Reset
    4. Tap Reset Network Settings

If you are still having wifi issues, see here:

    Carlos,

Blackra1n jailbreaks your iphone so you can install 3rd party applications, customize graphics, sounds, etc. Unlocking allows you to use the phone on networks other than AT&T. Apparently the issue is your phone isn’t unlocked. If you are running Firmware 3.1.2 open Blackra1n then install and run sn0w.

I followed the tutorial using latest blackra1n software. It sayid it was succesfull and it installed the blackra1in ap but when I run blackra1n to install Cydia it says Error no internet connection. Any ideas? Also it will not recognize my Vodafone sim card. Says invalid sim. Any ideas are appreciated.

    Hi Admin.

I had sucessfully jailbroke my iphone 3gs with blackra1n. But the problem is why when I’m prompt to reboot my iphone, it turns straight back to the recovery mode and I will start losing everything again.

Thanks, if I could get some help here.

Admin, I tried to download Blackra1n RC3 to my laptop with my iphone connected to laptop (ITune turned on). After I clicked “make it ra1n” on the app, ITune popped out a window saying ‘the software is not supported’ and asked me to reset my iphone. Not sure what to do so i clicked no. Now my iphone is stuck with an ITune logo and USB on the screen. Did not work when i tried to reboot.
I see someone here had got the same problem but did not find the answer from here.
    Can you help me please?
    Thanks!!!

    JISAN,

None has found a way around this problem so there is no fix for now and there perhaps will never ever be one.

Everyone should always be very carefull before updating to future as firmware well as things tend to become harder as time goes by..

All we can hope is a loophole in firmware OS 4.0

  16. JISAN 18 January 2010 at 8:56 am #

i think blackra1n totally fucked up my ipod..i installed it..rebooted and guess what? my ipod wont turn on! wtf? i cant believe this bullshit.

  21. admin 14 January 2010 at 6:34 am #

    GEOM,

This means you got one of the very latest iPhone/iTouch from Apple with iBoot version 359.3. Somwhere in October, Apple started shipping iPhones with this new version.

Because of the new bootloader blackra1n can only applies a tethered jailbreak to your device meaning every time you restart of shutdown it will go into recovery mode and
blackra1n must be ran again to get it past the Apple logo boot screen.

Your phone will not lose its jailbreak, and all customizations will be preserved, but the phone will not be able to boot past the Apple logo screen on its own.

  22. Brandon 12 January 2010 at 3:13 pm #

I jailbroke it… but when it finished mywhole first page with apps and music and mail and safari are all gone, and then i accadently uninstalled blackra1n, and when i tried to reinstall it nothing worked. email me at snakelama@aim.com please, i also deleted the 2 app things that come with it

  23. admin 11 January 2010 at 9:28 am #

    CM,

Restore it from your personal computer which your iPhone is associated to. Then it will be quite easy to have everything back on as long as you still have the files on your PC or Mac.

  24. ExiledSin 11 January 2010 at 12:09 am #

Hi, I jailbroke with Blackra1n on my main computer. But when I reboot the Ipod when I am at the library there is that logo with the itunes icon and the usb. So I download Blackra1n onto my sisters laptop, I have the Ipod Touch plugged in and ‘Make it ra1n’ then an error message pops up saying that they encountered a problem and closes Blackra1n. So i’m stuck with the logo until I get back home. Is there an alternative way to fixing this by not downloading itunes?

    Thanks,

I found out that the GPS problem was caused only by balckra1n jailbreak. I restored my iPhone and GPS was working fine, but right after the jailbreak it wasn’t working anymore.

Only thing that helped me with non-working GPS was complete restore with PwnageTool.

Here is link to Windows jailbreak: http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-and-unlock-iphone-3.1.2-firmware-on-windows-anu759/

    hello
i’ve hacked my iphone using blackrain, and the first time i did that, the blackrain app appeared on my phone. i later deleted it, but then i tried to install it again. when i did that, everything happened like the first time, the dude with curly hair appearing on the screen, and the phone rebooting, but this time the blackrian app did not pop up and did not appear. i tried jailbraking it again, i tried waiting, i tried lots of things, and each time it is jailbroken but the blackrain app did not appear. anyone can help? thanx

    Sorry Badassaf,

Wou’ll have to wait for the next version iPhone firmware and the jailbreak thats follows to fix it. Unless blackra1n RC4 comes in the meantime..

Hi, I have the exact same problem Geom was having. Did anyone figure out a fix? I’ve jailbroken tons of iphones before and never had this problem. This is really annoying.

  33. admin 27 December 2009 at 8:23 am #

    Allour,

So Blackra1n hasn’t hacktivated your iPhone? Are you sure you are using the most recent version from the website which is blackra1n RC3?

    What you would do is:

    1. Put your phone in DFU mode
    2. Restore to the latest iPhone firmware
    3. Get the latest version of Blackra1n and run it.

  34. allour 26 December 2009 at 11:05 pm #

Help. i did all this and now every time i turn my iphone back on i get the usb sign and itunes. it is stuck… it wants me to restore my system because i am in recovery… what to do, i dont want to make my phone locked again! please help…

  35. Geom 19 December 2009 at 6:31 am #

My phone goes into DFU mode after rebooting straight from the device!I ‘ve restored it twice and only when I installed a cydia app and needed to reboot springboard worked just fine.the thing is that I ‘ve heard several people complaining for the same problem.other than that my phone works fine!

  36. admin 19 December 2009 at 1:52 am #

    Geom,

You iPhone seems to be undergoing quite some trouble. Does it still do this if it’s restored to the stock firmware? If so I would suggest you return it to Apple.

  37. Geom 18 December 2009 at 3:55 am #

Admin, I do not mean that my device has not been recognized by the iTunes in my laptop.I twice managed to reboot iPhone by running blackra1n after connecting in iTunes.what I’am asking is what happens if I need to reboot away from my laptop? I wouldn’t be able to use the phone until I connect to my computer!am I right?

  38. admin 17 December 2009 at 9:01 pm #

    Hello Geom,

I am afraid I have no specific answer to your question as of now. Can you be a bit more explicative on the source of the problem? It won’t be recognized by your laptop? If thats the case have you given a try on another computer?

You need to set it right by going to its properties, and enabling “Windows XP Compatibility Mode”

  45. starwalker 9 December 2009 at 12:10 pm #

will it work on windows 7?????

  46. admin 6 December 2009 at 8:07 am #

For now forget about Blackra1n and try to restore to default 1st by following these steps:

If you are already in restore mode skip to step 5.

    1. Plug the iPod Touch into your computer.

    2. Power on the iPod Touch.

    3. Press the “Home” and “Sleep/Wake” buttons together for 5 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

    4. Release the “Sleep/Wake” button but continue holding down the “Home” button. The iPod Touch should reboot, and iTunes will notice the iPod Touch in recovery mode.

    5. Pick “iPod Touch” in the Source pane of the iTunes program.

    6. Click on the Summary tab.

    7. Choose “Check for Update.”

    8. Select “Restore” and follow the instructions to finish restoring your iPod Touch.

my ipod touch 3g was previously broken but when it ran out of battery it turned of and went into recovery mode. i understand that this is because this is a tethered jailbreak. i have run blackra1n over 20 times since then and it has not fixed my ipod. when the power is on it shows a connect to itunes screen and when it i run blackra1n the ipod shows a blank screen. i have tryed running the program with the ipod off and on. the ipod is out of batteries and only works when plugged into the computer. i do not know a lot about this stuff so please help me fix my ipod. because right now its a 300 dollar flaslight

It really worked for my iPhone 3GS!!! Iam from Brasil and used tethering with VIVO company. My phone is legally unlocked but I lost tethering after 3.1.2 upgrading. This really annoyed me!!! With Blackra1n the tethering is alive again!!! I still continue with problems in GPS since 3.1.2 upgrading. Googles Maps GPS works but in many times it gives me only the place but not the displacement. I reboot, reset networking, enable and disable 3G with and without WiFi but nothing worked. Tom Tom or GPS Lite haven´t found GPS signal. I thought after this jailbreaking this GPS problem related to 3.1.2. upgrading would be solved. Any suggestions???

    Hello, IDK:

I believe that solution was for WiFi issues. I did try to reset the wireless settings though, but to no avail!

I tried to jailreak it again, ensuring that I was using RC3, just for good measure. I did it on both a PC and a Mac but the problem persists. I hope there’s a solution soon!

I jailbroke using blackrain rc3 dloaded from blackrain’s site. Everytime I sync my apps with iTunes 9.0.2 most of my dloaded apps open for a split second, then crash. Also my phone is slowing down a bit. I used redsnow when I was running 3.0 software. Should I turn off sync apps to help after restoring? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ll send you cookie. 58. traumaticstarter 5 November 2009 at 1:05 am #

    Hello, Admin:

I am using the RC3 version of blackra1n which I downloaded from blackra1n.com. This is my first time jailbreaking my iPhone, so be gentle! :-)

Yes, I made sure I was using RC3 and it worked perfectly for me. However, on both occassions I couldn’t use my GPS after jailbreaking. Neither the aGPS, nor the GPS receiver seem to be functioning, and it used to work before the jailbreak.

I did find this issue mentioned by a few more people in other forums, but no concrete solution to the problem. I hope that this is resolved soon!

  59. anon 4 November 2009 at 11:54 am #

i tired many times following the above steps for it to freeze at the entering recovery mode. However got it to work by unticking the run compatibility box. After that was simple and quick :)

btw using vista x64 and iphone 3g(16gb)

  60. admin 4 November 2009 at 10:57 am #

    traumaticstarter,

I have heard of many issues with Blackra1n but never this so it’s kinda hard to help you. Have you updated to Blackra1n RC3 and tried to jailbreak then? I know RC1 had its load of issues that were fixed in later versions.

  61. traumaticstarter 4 November 2009 at 9:10 am #

I got the Jailbreak to work without a hitch using Windows 7 64-bit (twice).

On both occassions, I could’t get the GPS to work on my iPhone 3G after upgrading and jailbreaking. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix for it? Will there be a fix for it?

    Thanks, all!

  63. admin 24 October 2009 at 3:16 am #

If it wasn’t a 3GS I would suggest iREB to Fix “16xx” or “21″ error during a restore in iTunes..

Error 21 or error 1601 often means there is something wrong with your USB connection or with the communication between iTunes and the iPhone.

I would try without plugging it directly without a dock, on a different USB or better on another computer.

  64. firhad 24 October 2009 at 2:10 am #

any trick to restore back 3GS FU to firmware 3.1.2? I encounter error 1601 while restoring to factory default. jailbreaking using blackra1n fail on windows xp.

  65. Eric 20 October 2009 at 4:47 pm #

tried this twice and it said congratulations, your jailbroken, wait for reboot which never happened, so I did it myself, no jailbreak, and lost my carrier. yikes. think I’ll wait for a more stable solution.

  66. P R B 19 October 2009 at 5:56 pm #

    Hi!

Finally got mine to work on a iPhone 3G! Here’s my settings for VistaX64 users. Am using Ultimate, but I’m sure it’ll work for all VistaX64 versions.

    1. Back up/Sync your iPhone 3G
    2. Do a Shift-Restore to 3.1.2. This makes sure the iPhone is totally wiped and upgraded to 3.1.2, so you’ll have a brand new Factory Settings environment after upgrading.
    OR
Upgrade to 3.1.2, then hit Restore to bring the iPhone to Factory Settings.
    3. Close iTunes.
    4. Hit CTRL-ATL-DEL and run Task Manager
    5. Hit Show All Processes
    6. End ALL processes that are connected to Apple.
    eg, mdnsresponder.exe(Bonjour Service), iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, iPodService.exe, AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe.
    7. Close Task Manager
    8. Unplug iPhone 3G
    8. Save blackra1n in C:\
    9. Right-Click blackra1n and hit Run as Administrator.
    10. Hit make it ra1n
    11. Plug in your iPhone 3G
    12. Magic! Your iPhone 3G is jailbroken!

No more getting stuck at the “connect to iTunes” screen. Then install Cydia/Rock/Icy as preferred OR run iTunes and restore to your previous backup. Whichever one works for your first. Enjoy!

  67. Jack 19 October 2009 at 2:30 pm #

Try restoring your iphone and opting out of the carrier update for 3.1.2. Run blackra1n, install cydia (or other), and then update carrier setting. This worked for my after multiple unsuccessful tries

I’ve been trying this since Monday the 12th and couldn’t get it to jailbreak. And I found these instructions from “PuG” on another site AND IT WORKED.. FINALLY ! ! !

“Been messing about with my 3G 8gb for about half an hour trying to jailbreak it lol.. followed everyones suggestions and nothing worked… THEN i cracked it… Do all the update stuff first then unplug your iphone and reboot it. compatibility mode your blackra1n, RUN blackra1n and click “make it rain”… THEN and only then plug your iphone back into the computer… was over and done in 30 seconds, popped up wit the message telling me my iphone would be jailbroken once it had reboot and the image of the curly haired lad with the wave of iphones popped onto the screen… it rebooted and now its done.
