How enable Push Notifications for Gmail on the iPhone

Apple hasn’t added push for Gmail to its Mail app on the iPhone, but Google has worked around that via Google Sync. All you have to do is set it up as a Microsoft Exchange account. At last!

Previously you could just sync your Google contacts and calendars, but now finally it supports Gmail as well, allowing you to be notified instantly when you get a new email.
Now you don’t need to buy third party applications to get Push Notifications for Gmail on your iPhone / iPod touch, all your Gmail pushed directly to your iPhone. Your inbox is always up to date no matter where you are, or what you’re doing.

Here are the steps to enable Push Notifications for Google Sync Account:

Open the Settings app on your iPhone

Scroll down to and select Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Tap Add Account

Tap Microsoft Exchange

In the email field type your email address

In the user name field type your email address

In the password field type your password tap next

Another box will appear called Server in this box enter m.google.com

Choose what you would like to sync with Google

Now for Enabling Push…

Go back to Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Choose Fetch New Data and check Push is enabled
