Send Free SMS Worldwide over the internet with Global.AQ iPhone App

Advertisements

It seems SMS or text messages are the most used feature on a cell phone. Not surprisingly, the cell phone carriers are trying to milk this cash cow, in spite of the fact that it almost costs nothing to send a text message. Today we review a great mobile application that lets you send unlimited free text messages all over the world – Global.AQ

Global.AQ is a great iPhone/iPod Touch app that lets you send unlimited free SMS over your data connection (wifi, 3G, or EDGE). The app implements the simple idea of sending SMS over the internet on the iPhone platform. The app is very simple and very well executed and it surprisingly works well most of the times.

Using the app is very easy. Just install the app (iTunes link) and then run it. The app integrates well with your address book, so you can use the numbers from your address book or manually enter the number. Type your message as you would normally do and then hit the send button. Just ensure that you type the number in the international format, i.e. + (country code) (Number), e.g. +112335657890. The app does not support landscape mode (may be in the future it will, lets hope), but it is a minor inconvenience. The screen shots will provide little more details…

The app does not support group messaging, i.e. you can send SMS to only one number at a time. It also does not support two way messaging, i.e. the recipient cannot reply you through the same message. The app itself is CHEAP AT 1.99$ so go ahead and download the app  You do not even have to pay to send those SMSs, they are delivered for free :-) . For all those texting their way to glory, this could mean a huge saving. The app is ad supported, so be prepared to see some ads while you are sending your messages. Note that there are no ads inside the msg, so you get the entire space for your SMS.

If you want to send SMS only within the USA, then I would recommend using Google Voice to send free SMS. It is more reliable than SMS Global.AQ.

Overall, I am greatly impressed with Global.AQ. The user interface is very intuitive, the app is stable and fast. In my tests, Free SMS Global.AQ did reasonably well. I tried sending SMS to over 5 countries, including India, Netherlands, Australia, USA, Canada, etc., and the SMS were delivered with little or no delay. In some cases, the delay was much longer. I could not get confirmation from some countries like Tanzania, Oman, etc.

I would strongly encourage you to try it out and share your experiences. If you are an iPhone or iPod Touch user, this is almost a must have app. Let us (and your fellows) know which country did it work for and for which countries it did not work. It will also enable the developers to iron out the bugs, if any.

    Avat,

If you are using the light version you are limited to 7 credit units per day and that’s it. You can upgrade to the standard or pro version which includes 50 or 500 units respectfully. One those versions you can purchase additional credits within the app.

if my credit runs out, how do i get more credits? also, my friend also has global.aq lite install, how can he send the txt to my global.aq account rather than my normal number?

try sending an SMS to +88234 7000 00 00 with the word “test”. If you get a reply it works. If not, complain to your operator that you can’t reach that number.
