PwnageTool 3.1.5 is compatible with Mac only and does not support Windows versions such as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 OS. However Windows users can use Sn0wbreeze for jailbreaking purpose.

Guide to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 with PwnageTool 3.1.5

• Open PwnageTool 3.1.5 on your desktop and choose your device.
• PwnageTool will detect and verify the latest firmware.
• After verifying, it will ask whether you have contract. Click on No. (Yes for official subscribers) Clicking on “Yes” will update your baseband to the latest version which will make your device almost impossible to unlock. Click on “Yes” only if you are on an officially supported carrier like AT&T.
• It will build a new Custom .ipsw file for your device so that you could easily jailbreak it.
• Now, jailbreak your device with the help of custom firmware file. (Use Restore!)
• That’s it. Wait till entire process gets finished.

Sn0wbreeze is similar to the iPhone Dev Team’s Pwnage Tool, in that it creates a custom firmware that you use to restore with, in iTunes. This is for Windows users, only. I will say that I tested the beta of their 3.1.2 release, and it failed miserably. I ended up having to do an official restore, after trying it. I was trying it on my iPhone 3GS that I purchased on launch day, and jailbroke shortly after, so I know it has the older boot rom. Use this tool at your own risk.

The steps are pretty easy. To prepare yourself, make sure you have a copy of your device’s 3.1.3 firmware handy. Typically, keeping it on your desktop is easiest. Then download sn0wbreeze 3.1.3. You can get it here.

Click the blue arrow to get started. Then select “Simple Mode”, and click the blue arrow again.

Click browse and navigate to the correct IPSW for your device.

In my case, I’m using an iPhone 3GS firmware, and I get this warning. Make sure you are certain your 3GS has the old boot rom. If your 3GS is already jailbroken on 3.1.2, you know you are safe. If you have updated to the official 3.1.3, you’re out of luck. If you are sure, click “I Understand”.

Click the blue arrow, once sn0wbreeze has verified your IPSW.

Decide if you need hacktivation, or not. If you are on an official carrier, you click “No”. If you need to unlock, you click “yes”.

Sn0wbreeze will now build your custom IPSW.

Once it is finished you will see this screen, letting you know everything went well and you are now ready to restore in iTunes. If you are jailbreaking an iPhone 3GS, you will be asked to put your device in recovery mode. If you jailbroking an iPhone 3G or 2G, you will be asked to put your device in DFU mode.

To restore, just press Shift and click the Restore button, in iTunes, on your device’s summary screen. Then navigate to your new custom firmware. It should be on your desktop.

Eventually this will be made a part of the normal PwnageTool flow but for now this is best left for the adventurous users out there!

1. For free using CommCenter.patch

First get this file and put CommCenter.patch on your Desktop:

• Jailbreak with (Pwage Tool 3.1.4 or  Blackra1n) your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS.
• Copy /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/CommCenter to your Desktop also.
• Open the Terminal and: cd Desktop
• bspatch CommCenter CommCenter-hacked CommCenter.patch
• Now go ahead and delete CommCenter now from your Desktop and rename CommCenter-hacked to just CommCenter.
• Rename CommCenter on your iPhone to CommCenter.backup in case something bad happens, so you have a backup.
• Copy the new CommCenter to your iPhone.
• SSH into your iPhone or use MobileTerminal as root and chmod +755 the new CommCenter so that it’s executable.
• Restart your phone.
• Check your Setting > General > Network, and you should have the Tethering option.
• If you dont visit http://www.benm.at/help/help.php from your iPhone and install a new mobileconfig. just like you did in 3.0.

2. MyWi 3.1.8 (10$ after 10 days trial)

• Jailbreak with (Pwage Tool 3.1.4 or  Blackra1n) your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS.
• Once your iPhone is jailbreaked navigate to Cydia and Search for ‘MyWi’ app for installation.

• Launch the MyWi (Rock app) and navigate to – Manage > Rock ID > Create New RockID

• You might need to update to new version of MyWi app. Once updated you will be prompted for ‘Soft Restart Required’. Click ‘Ok’ to continue.

• Open MyWi and turn the USB and Bluetooth Tethering option ON.

• Reboot your iPhone device.
• Navigate to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering and make the Tethering ON

I hope all the iPhone 3GS users will be very happy as the iPhone Dev Team has just released the Pwnagetool 3.1.3! You can use the Pwnagetool 3.1.3 to jaibreak iPhone 3GS with iPhone OS 3.1. The Pwnagetool 3.1.3 is Mac only for now… Once you have done with jailbreaking iPhone 3GS with iPhone OS 3.1, you can use Ultrasn0w to unlock iPhone 3GS.

Before proceeding with the Jailbreaking of your iPhone 3GS on 3.1 firmware you will need:

1. iTunes 9
2. iPhone 3GS 3.1 Firmware

How To Jailbreak iPhone 3GS OS 3.1  Using PwnageTool 3.1.3:

• Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
• Before proceeding, just take a backup of all your important data.
• Keep the iPhone 3GS 3.1 Firmware and the PwnageTool 3.1.3 into a folder on your computer.
• Connect your iPhone 3GS to Mac computer.
• Double click the PwnageTool 3.1.3 to mount it and create a shortcut.
• Launch the PwnageTool and click ok on warring message “PwnageTool is a free tool” and select “Expert Mode” from top left menu.
• Now select your device “iPhone 3GS” in this case and click on the Blue Arrow.
• Pwanage Tool will automatically find the .ipsw file (Iif it doesnt then browse for it and select the file).
• In the next step, there will be a General Setting Screen.
• If you are using an Official service provider (i.e. AT&T) you do not need to “Unlock Baseband”, therefore you can Uncheck “Activate the phone” and Check “Enable baseband update”.
• If You are using an Unofficial service provider (i.e. T-Mobile) then Uncheck “Enable baseband update” So you can use Ultrasn0w with the 3.1
• In the next step you can choose the apps of your choice from the install menu. Install Cydia installer and then click on the blue Button.
• Click on the Build button and then on the blue arrow to begin the custom firmware building (Pwnage) process.
• Save the .ipsw file built by the PwnageTool.
• PwangeTool will ask you “has your iPhone 3G been pwned before?”, if you are not sure then click on NO.
• You need to put your iPhone in DFU mode now. Turn off your iPhone and then press the following keys in sequence – Hold down the home button for 5 seconds and then hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds. Now release the Power button while continuing to hold the Home button until the iPhone is in DFU mode. Once the iPhone 3GS is in DFU mode a message is displayed.
• Now Launch iTunes 9 to restore your iPhone with the custom Firmware built by PwnageTool 3.1.3.
• In iTunes, hold the “Alt/Option” key and click on “Restore”.
• Browse and Select the custom IPSW file and click on “Open”.
• iTunes will restore the custom firmware and this might take upto 10 mins.
• After this your iPhone 3GS will restart automatically.

Now that your iPhone 3GS Jailbreak is Complete, follow this guide to unlock it with ultrasn0w :

• Check whether you installed Cydia while Jail-breaking your iPhone 3GS
• Now Run Cydia to install Ultrasnow,then click on “Manage” tab at the bottom and select “Sources”.
• Add repository,by typing following repository URL http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ and tap on “Add Source”.
• Now Search for Ultrasnow, install it.
• Once Installation is completed, restart your iPhone 3GS and use it with any SIM/Carrier.

How to enable Tethering on iPhone OS 3.0

• Tethering through iPhone’s safari is the easiest way to enable the hack.
• Go to the link — http://help.benm.at/help.php — using iPhone’s Safari browser.
• Then click on Mobileconfigs on that page
• Select your country from the list
• Once you have selected the country, you will be asked to select the provider.
• Tap on the Install button
• Tap on the Install Now button
• Tap on the Done button
• Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Internet Tethering and tap on the toggle button to enable tethering.

Issues: This seems to disable Voicemail feature for some users and It doesn’t seem to work with 1st generation iPhone.

Note: If using tethering then you should not upgrade to OS 3.1 as this upgrade will disable the hack.

Considering High Severity of SMS Vulnerability and it can allow attacker to gain control of whole iPhone it becomes mandatory to upgrade to OS 3.0.1. We are sure the next question which is in your mind, will upgrading to iPhone OS 3.0.1 will lose jailbreak and unlocked ?

Method 1: YouTube and Facebook and Twitter, all at Once!

Currently the easiest method to post videos on YouTube and Facebook is actually to post the video to both services at the same time (at least until the Facebook App for iPhone adds video support) here’s how:

1. Visit your YouTube account autosharing settings and click on the services below to add them. Note: You can add Twitter here as well if you wish your videos to be uploaded to Twitter as well!

2. Take a video with your iPhone 3GS.

3. Upload it to YouTube directly from the video by tapping on the share button in the bottom corner and choosing Send to YouTube.

That’s it! Your videos will now publish to YouTube and then shortly afterwards, to Facebook and Twitter as long as you’ve configured your autoshare correctly. It’s been my experience that it can take 15-20 minutes for the video to be ready to watch on Facebook or Twitter, although the post for the video with your caption may appear earlier.

Method 2: Post Directly to Twitter

A few days ago, this section would have been much more involved, but luckily, the release of the TwitVid app has simplified matters greatly. TwitVid is available on the App Store and better yet, it’s free! to post a vid to Twitter using TwitVid:

1.Start up Twitvid and enter your Twitter account information so that TwitVid has authorization to use your account to post videos.

2. Once you’ve authorized TwitVid, select an existing video or record a new video to upload.

3. After you’ve selected your video, write a tweet to accompany the video and hit the Post button!

Bam!  Your video will appear on twitter shortly. TwitVid is so slick it will actually let your Twitter followers start watching your video even as you’re uploading it

Method 3: Vimeo Upload using Posterous

Now, Vimeo is a bit different and a bit more involved. Especially being as it was built primarily to share very high resolution content.  It might not be the first video sharing site people think of when they want to post an iPhone video, but it has tons of users and we’ve already seen some videographers using the 3GS to do some pretty cool stuff. So if you aleady regularly post to Vimo from your other cameras, it could be handy to post from your iPhone as well. We will need to take advantage of a really cool site called Posterous that allows you to set up a personalized email address that takes evertyhing you send to it and posts it on the appropriate social sites. To post video to your Vimeo account:

1. Visit www.posterous.com and create Posterous account.

2. Click on the Autosharing button under Management.

3. Add the Vimeo service and authorize it to accept input from Posterous, just follow the automated setup.

4. Once you have that done, simply take your video then email it to vimeo@yourusername.posterous.com.

That’s it! Now as soon as Vimeo has processed your video it will be available for viewing.

However, if you have updated to iPhone 3.0, you may have found out that iClarified hasn’t released yet their Volume Boost 3.0. Their last version is Volume Boost 2.2.0 which will not work in iPhone 3.0.

Fortunately, there is another developer that filled the gap and came up with something called–yup, you guessed it– “Volume Boost 3.0″.

Here’s what you should do:

Step 1:

On your jailbroken iPhone, open Cydia, tap Manage and then Sources. Tap the Edit and then Add buttons above. Add the source http://fishbone.ge.

Step 2:

In the list of sources, tap fishbone and scroll down and tap Volume Boost (3.0).

Step 3:

Tap the Install button and then Confirm.

Step 4:

After the installation has been completed, tap on the Return to Cydia button.

Step 5:

Reboot.

While I noticed only a slight increase in the volume of the iPhone speaker, there is a much noticeable difference when using the headset.

The advice GeoHot is giving, is that users that want to jailbreak/unlock their 3GS in the near future should generate a certain ‘certificate’. The thing is this:

When iTunes starts the restore process, they contact Apple servers to generate signatures for your device. It’s important you get these signatures before a new version of the software comes out.

So these certificates, which you should generate NOW, might save you a jailbreak/unlock in the future.

And here’s how it works:

Put your phone into recovery mode and connect it to your computer.

Using usbview on Windows(enable Config Descriptors), System Profiler on Mac, or lsusb on Linux, read your phones ECID. It’s the 16 digit hex number after “ECID:”

Go to “Options/Config Descriptors”
Clic on  “File” / “Refresh”
Chose “Apple Recovery (iBoot)”
and copy (ctrl-c) your ECID code that should look like something like this: 000000DSHA015DS4

Go to purplera1n, type it, and hit enter

Save the generated file
