You reached home after a very busy and eventful day, and suddenly realize that your iPhone is no longer with you. Now you can’t remember where you have left it, on your office table, in the canteen, at the gym, or maybe in the restaurant. Instead of having a panic attack and a very anxiety-filled hunt the next day, you could track down the location of the device using Cerebro, a Cydia app for jailbroken iPhones.

Best of all, Cerebro, earlier known as CALocationService is completely free of cost. Apple has location tracking service called ‘Find my iPhone’ but it costs you a lot of money, around a hundred bucks, that is. If you are willing to jailbreak your device and install Cydia on it, you can avoid moments of stress.

Cerebro works by recording the GPS coordinates of iPhone and uploading it to a server every 30 minutes. All this happens in the background, so the thief who stole your device will never know about it.

In order to use Cerebro, you need to first jailbreak your iPhone and install Cydia on it. For downloading and installing the app, navigate to ‘Manage–> Sources’ in Cydia and add the following source to your repository:

http://chrisalvares.com/apt

Click on the chrisalvares repository and install Cerebro. You may have to respring for the Cerebro icon to appear on your Springboard.

Are you having a tough time trying to get an app off Cydia lately? Is it crashing on your iPhone as if it has a vendetta against you? If yes, then chances are that you have ZodTTD Cydia repo installed on your iPhone.

Apparently, there is an issue with some files in the repo which sends Cydia into a crashing loop. The issue has been reported on ZodTTD’s official blog.

Here’s a solution to deal with this issue to get cydia working perfectly on your iPhone.

1) SSH into your iPhone using and navigate to “/var/lib/apt/lists/”
Note:SSHing can be done using the following tools.
Windows users: iPhoneBrowser or iFunBox
Mac users: Cyberduck

2) Delete the following three files

cydia.zodttd.com_repo_cydia_dists_stable_Release

cydia.zodttd.com_repo_cydia_dists_stable_Release.gpg

cydia.zodttd.com_repo_cydia_dists_stable_main_binary-iphoneos-arm_Packages

3) Navigate to /private/etc/apt/sources.list.d and delete the zodttd.list file.

4) Open cydia on your iPhone and make sure that you tap on the cancel button(at the top) when it’s refreshing the packages.

5) Tap on search tab and look for ZodTTD’s Source. Once it’s visible, click on it.

6) Uninstall the source by clicking on modify button followed by remove and confirm buttons.

7) Congrats, you just solved the cydia crashing issue on your iPhone!

Appsidy, the newest Cydia store payment method has just been released and is in fact the service that Zodttd decided to use as the store to sell his N64iPhone emulator on.

As I have bought the emulator through the service, I can tell you first hand that it is not good at least not at the moment. I cannot update the emulator for whatever reason. It wants me to pay it again to update it.

However I suppose that this problem could be a result of it being just released so I will give it some time to sort itself out but it is still disappointing.

On a post on iPhone Enthusiasts, Saurik has posted his opinion on Appsidy and the fact that Appsidy is owned by the same people who created the Rock application. Here are Saurik’s comments:

Comment 1:

(For the record, Appsidy == Rock == IntelliBorn: they are all the same people operating under different names.)

For a user, Appsidy’s “no refunds” policy is quite damning . Also, most of the people using PayPal are overseas, and the currency conversion costs drastically outweigh the current $0.25 fee I charge (which I’ve actually been working with my PayPal representative to fix).

If you are in the US I encourage you to use Amazon, which not only provides a mobile-formatted checkout process but also is integrated into Cydia in a way that lets me save your payment information in a manner similar to that claimed by Rock.

A representive of Appsidy’s response:

The Paypal international currency conversion fee is 2.5%. Thus, only on sales of $10 or more would it equate (only one app is in your store is over $10). So unfortunately, the Cydia Store is “drastically” charging users unjustified additional fees. Also, if it were to address the conversion rate, why wouldn’t it be a percent of the sale? And what about US users – why are they charged the $0.25? Obviously, the Cydia Store is charging additional fees separate from the cost to:
- A) Say the price is one amount, but really checkout with a greater cost.
- B) Increase the percentage Cydia store takes from the developer, but behind their back. This is very poor practice to devs and customers.

Apple does over $1 billion in sales with a no refund policy. We think the community understands what they’re getting into when they buy an app for $1 and risk not liking it .

With Paypal’s 2.4+ billion in sales, we think users have clearly made a statement of which payment processor they prefer. Who’s heard of Amazon Payments?

A great feature of Appsidy, is that users can also use their RockID – so regardless of where you purchase your item, you can install inside Rock and Cydia. Also – there have been many complaints of users returning phones and the Cydia store not allowing them to download. We have an automated built-in device transfers – so you don’t have to worry about this or contact someone and wait for a response. And you don’t have to wait 2+ weeks to get a response from us (typically < 48 hours).

Finally, yes – the founder of the companies is the same person – but each company offers different value and services.

We think there’s room for competition in the jailbroken community – and we hope to improve user experience and overall jailbroken community satisfaction through your feedback. Thanks Jay for your help and feedback!

Saurik’s reponse:

A) What I just explained is that the $0.25 is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the conversion costs, not that it /is/ somehow the conversion costs. I could do the math out for you on the Amazon micropayments vs. PayPal rates, but you can also do that and see that $0.25 is fair. The point is that I have never once gotten a complain regarding the $0.25 ;P. What I am working with PayPal on is figuring out how to determine what payments have to go through a micropayments account which which ones don’t, in order to get similar rates.

(This price is also upfront to the user, which you claim it isn’t: it is very obvious that this cost is applied before you even choose a purchasing agent.)

B) The Cydia Store license transfer system is automated for the first four devices. After that you need to talk to someone. That means that it is already better than the Rock license transfer system, even before you have to speak to someone. Also, as of two weeks ago, the mechanism was tweaked to mean that users probably never have to e-mail me no matter how many devices they want to get on their account, as there is now a time-weighted mechanism for handling the linkages.

C) As for Amazon Payments, anyone who has ever bought anything from Amazon has an Amazon account. In the US for online purchasers that is an insane percentage. If you actually look at the rates of usages of Amazon Payments vs. PayPal in Cydia you see about 45% of users happily using Amazon Payments.

D) I am fine with competition, and never stated otherwise. However, I will take this opportunity to say that competition should be handled in a way that is open, honest, and transparent. Even this person doesn’t know who the players involved are here, and nearly all of your statements in this last followup are incorrect.

Have you had a bad experience with Appsidy?

Here are some of the features of the app:

* It uses backgrounder in the backend. So, it acts more like a graphical extension to backgrounder.
* It has a beautiful interface and comes very close to palm pre’s design.
* If you want to close an app in the background, all you have to do is vertically swipe over it’s preview pane!
* In the preview mode, the background turns dark so that the preview panes are clearly visible.

Look at the video demo below:

SnapTap allows you to take pictures using the volume controls using the small / hard to find touch button at the bottom of your camera app. This app is intended to also work with any other camera apps you might use, which really makes this tweak a fantastic addition. I personally always found it ridiculous when taking a photo by tapping the screen. Using the volume controls to snap your photo should have been a built in feature in a more Camera-Like manner.

The idea behind this tweak is so that you can hold your iPhone like a normal camera and use the volume buttons as the shutter control. It also makes self portraits incredibly easier, and also works for activating the video camera and stopping it.

Note: There is no app icon for this, all you have to do is open your camera application and use the volume buttons to take pictures.

This app is available on the Cydia Store via BigBoss for 99 cents.

Geohot’s Blackra1n 2 minute jailbreak tool saved many of us wanting to upgrade our iPhones to the latest 3.1.2 Firmware but it also came with a few flaws.

As it didn’t add the AFC2 support to the jailbreaked iPhone many handy 3rd party applications such as: Diskaid, iPhonebrowser, iFunbox, etc that needed the afc2 service to access the iPhone to transfer files such as Winterboard themes, etc stopped working (Meaning you can’t access the root partition of your drive with desktop clients).

GeoHotz later tweeted that he disabled it because of issues with Blackra1n and said to simply look arround cydia for a quick fix.

To resolve the issue:

Load up Cydia to search and install a fix called “afc2add”. Once rebooted Diskaid, iPhone browser, iFunbox or other file browser should be working again!

The iPhone and iPod Touch Firewall that we announced was coming soon a few days ago has got it’s first video demonstrating how it works on a real iPhone. The video was posted by the apps creator Yillar.

The application will work in two parts: the first will exploit the MobileSubstrate, remaining active but while still providing a good general, speed remaining within the limits of the RAM memory usage. Every time that we will be launching an application will appear an information menu and we will discover what you are trying to access. When using a network-enabled application a prompt will be displayed giving you control over what hosts the application can connect to.

The second part of the application, we can access through the dedicated icon and will be useful to amend and/or delete rules set to certain applications. Once you have selected an application, you will be able to drill down and configure the individual allow or deny rules.

The application will work in two parts: The first will use MobileSubstrate, it remains active but nonetheless provides a good overall speed, using a little amount of RAM memory. After installation, an icon will also show up on the springboard using which one can set access permissions for different apps. Every time you start an application the app will bring up a menu of information and find out what the app is trying to access or better yet, what details about your phone its trying to send out.

You can choose to do the following:

Allow the connection only once

Block the connection only once

Always allow the connection

Always lock the connection

Allowing any request for a specific application

Block any request for a specific application

The second part of the application will be an icon with all of the settings and will allow you to change your settings for the apps you’ve already denied access to the internet if you need to do so.
